Close Up programs help students and teachers engage with policy and media experts, advocacy and NGO leaders, and educational institutions to gain insights on history, government, and public policy. Either by collaborating with Close Up on our DC-based programs, creating a specialized program or serving students locally in their communities, our program partners help provide opportunities that help young people better understand and critically think about the important issues facing our democracy.

The Close Up Foundation is the official education partner of A Starting Point (ASP). Close Up and ASP will launch a nationwide civic engagement initiative to enhance resources available to schools during virtual learning and help educate the next generation on pressing issues in hopes to increase participation in our democracy. Additionally, the platform will combine Close Up’s 50 years of experience and ASP’s mission to create connectivity and dialogue between students and their elected representatives.
Our unique educational partnerships in Washington, DC, provide participants with critical insights from education, media, and policy experts.
We draw on the expertise of our many partner institutions to provide guest speakers, demonstrations, and simulations designed to provide unique first-hand learning experiences for students and educators on program.
Utilizing partnership workshops, seminars, and on-site study visits, teachers gain valuable tools and resources to bring back to the classroom as well as opportunities for academic and professional development.
Partnering with Congress
Connecting students with elected officials provides an opportunity for them to practice critical citizenship skills and discuss the important issues impacting their lives and communities. Each year, Close Up facilitates more than 1,100 meetings with their members of Congress for participants in our Washington-based programs. We are also proud to have the following current and former members of Congress as Close Up alumni:
